Born in a centuries-old village in Poland, Piotr Tomasz’s musical journey began in the most intimate of settings—surrounded by the sounds of the organ played by his father, a village organist and music teacher. From the age of seven, when he performed Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor on the organ, it was clear that Piotr was destined for a life in music. By thirteen, he was appointed organist in the historic village of Racławice, and soon after, he embarked on formal piano studies. His exceptional talent earned him first-place admissions to the prestigious Chopin High School in Kraków and the Kraków Academy of Music, where he studied under the renowned Prof. Andrzej Pikul.
During his studies, Piotr performed Ravel’s complete works, including both piano concertos with orchestra, and won the Warsaw Contemporary Music Competition. His artistry took him across Europe, with performances in Poland, France, and Italy, before he was awarded a full scholarship to the Juilliard School in New York. There, he honed his craft under the guidance of Jerome Lowenthal (piano) and Lionel Party (harpsichord).
In 2011, Piotr moved to Shanghai, China, where he founded the FaceArt Institute of Music which became a beacon of excellence in early music education, with hundreds of awards earned by his students. In 2021, Piotr established Światowid Media Group, a state-of-the-art audio-video production facility. That same year, his debut album, Bach: Goldberg Variations, was released by MSR Classics and is available on major platforms, including Apple Music and QQ Music.
Chopin and Bach have always been at the heart of Piotr’s musical world. In 2023, he embarked on a highly successful tour of China with a Chopin program. This tour marked the beginning of a new chapter in Piotr’s career, as he committed himself to an ambitious project: “All of Chopin: Piano Legacy”. Launching in 2025, this monumental endeavor will see Piotr record, perform, and write about every single piece composed by Chopin.
Piotr Tomasz lives in Shanghai with his wife and two sons. Beyond music, he holds a fourth Dan black belt in Kendo, a testament to his discipline and dedication—qualities that shine through in his artistry.
